Have you ever noticed how easy it is to work with some people and how difficult it is to work with others? A lot of times, that’s because you have different work styles.
- Some people like to think about the big picture.
- Some people like to get into the details.
- Some people like to talk about their feelings.
- Some people think that’s a waste of time.
It’s human nature, and it’s why working on teams can be like fingernails on a chalkboard: when you work with people who have different work styles than yours, you have to learn new ways of working together.
If you don’t, things get hard.
The Tilt 365 assessment we use identifies four key work styles.
If you learn the strengths and weaknesses of each style, you can work with almost anyone:
- Connection: You love connecting people with each other. Sometimes … you spend too much time “talking about” without making plans and getting into action:
- Impact: You move fast and get results. Sometimes … you move too fast and miss key details.
- Structure: You’re the architect of the plans. Sometimes … you care more about the process than how people feel.
- Clarity: You’re brilliant with data and research. Sometimes … you move too slowly and freeze with analysis paralysis.
With self-awareness, you can begin to identify your own and others’ work styles. The more you do that, the more you learn how to adapt.
The more you do this as a team, the faster you achieve high performance.
Have you worked with these styles before? Which one do you personally identify with?
